General Information

League Dues
The cost for the adult leagues is an upfront $10.00 entry fee, $10.00 per night for league dues plus table time. Please note, 100-percent of the league dues shall be returned in the form of prize money. Players are responsible for their dues even when games are missed. There is full disclosure of how the prize money is distributed.

Entree Fee
The entree fee shall cover expenses including printer paper and ink, envelopes, postage, photocopies plus secretarial fees.

GCABA Sanction Fee
The Canton Billiard League also collects from each league member a $1.00 sanction fee to help support the Greater Canton Amateur Billiard Hall of Fame. Players are not required to pay the $1.00 sanction fee if they previously paid it through another Canton Billiard League within the previous twelve months.

Each player is responsible for making available their score by either:

1. Submitting the score sheet to the league secretary, or;
2. Posting the score and any runs in the tray at the bulletin board immediately after the game is played.

Prize Money
The players with the most run outs in the 8-ball and 9-ball leagues or high run in the straight league shall receive $20.00. In addition, the players with the most 9-balls on the break (or 8-balls depending on the game), shall also receive $20.00.

Bonus money shall be paid to the top one-half of the standings. The bonus money shall consist of one-half of the prize money after the above categories are paid. The champion shall receive one-half of the bonus money. The second place finisher shall receive an amount equal to one-half of the amount paid to the champion. The third place finisher shall receive an amount equal to one-half of the amount paid to second place. Each player shall receive exactly one-half of the amount paid to the player above him. After the last place finisher of the top-half is paid, any remaining money shall be returned to the general prize money distributed to all players.

The general prize money consists of the remaining half of the prize money. It shall be paid on a pro-rata basis to all players in the league based on their total points earned for the season to the total points in the league. For example, a player who earns 10-percent of the total points accumulated by the league, shall receive 10-percent of the prize money. This money is paid to all players in the league.

Makeup Games
If you are unable to play, you should call your opponent prior to league play and reschedule the match. There shall be a thirty minute grace period before a player is given a forfeit. Any player who doesn't arrive for a scheduled match, or arrives after 7:30 p.m., without calling beforehand forfeits the match. However, in the spirit of league play, consideration should be given to allow for emergencies, unforeseen problems, etc.

Two forfeits in a row may result in automatic disqualification from the league and loss of prize money. Makeup games must be played within one week prior to any position round (knockdown) or they are automatically forfeited. Any players who quits the league forfeits all prize money. Further, any such player shall be required to pay for the entire league season in advance in the future.

Establishing Averages and Handicaps
Those interested in playing in our handicap leagues, must submit their name, telephone number and level of play from "A" to "D". The "A" players are the best players in our area, requiring no handicap in order to compete even against the best players while "D" players require the highest handicaps. "B" players require a handicap against only the best players and "C" players often require a handicap but consistently beat "D" players.

The straight and 9-ball leagues are handicapped. You are being asked to rate yourself for two reasons: 1) To establish a starting average and handicap in case we don't know you. 2) So there is mutual agreement between you and the league as to your starting average. The intent of rating yourself is to establish a reasonable handicap on the outset. The Canton Billiard League has been in existence for twenty eight years and, therefore, has established averages for several hundred players in Stark County. You may compare your ability to any of the players in the attached spreadsheet to establish your starting average:

Master Record

All Straight Pool and 9-ball games shall be played on the Diamond tables unless both players mutually agree to play on a 7' table. All 8-Ball games shall be played on the 7' tables unless both players mutually agree to play on a Diamond. Runs do not count unless the respective game is played on the primary table. All games must be played at Fiddlestix.

History
The Canton Billiard League, formally known as the Canton Timken League, was founded in 1977 by Dick Eubanks. He originally created this league for his co-workers at Timken Company. It featured straight pool to 25 innings or 100, whichever occurred first. A few years later he opened the league to all players and its name was changed to the Canton Billiard League.

The league has been run by Dick Moecia since 1986. The top players in Stark County have played in the Canton Billiard League over the years including Troy Frank and Chris Szuter. While the Canton Billiard League has focused its play on 9-ball and straight pool in the past, it currently also offers one-on-one competition in 8-ball on the small tables as well.

In addition, it periodically posts results for other leagues as well for the benefit of Canton pool players. For example, the Mick Powell senior 8-ball league was posted this past summer.
