John Jarvis to Head GCAABA
John Jarvis was born in Akron in 1964 and has lived in Ohio most of his life. John spent his early adult years working for his father at Ruhlin Construction. He also owned a roofing company in Atlanta, GA before moving back to Ohio and working for an inventory company as an area manager.
He currently owns a lawn/landscaping business which he started in 1996. His family includes his mother (Charlene), brother (Jeff), a niece and nephew. John’s father, Ernest, passed away in 1998 of cancer. John has dedicated his pool game to his dad who taught John everything about the game. His love of the game goes beyond playing. He wants to help other players learn how to be better players, to enjoy playing pool and to respect other players at all levels. John also has one other inspirational family legacy. His father’s great, great grandmother, Anna Jarvis, was the founder of “Mothers Day”.
John owned the Akron Sports Bar located in Akron from 2007 to 2010 where he had 15 teams playing out of his bar. John played in numerous 8-ball leagues during this period. He grew up with a pool table and his dad taught him a lot about the game and to have fun playing the game. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s John spent time in the local pool halls in Akron and met some great local pool players including Curly Moon, Joe Donofrio and Sam Holt. John decided to buckle down in 1997 and improve his game. He started playing in Akron leagues including Bell Music, Castle Music League and Akron Amateur Pool League where he attained MVP four times. In the Canton area, John played in Cheryl Stoiber's Canton-Louisville League in the A-Division and the Scotch Doubles where he won MVP. John also played in the Clark & Son Monday night pool league, VNEA in the Gold Division as well as the APA;for 6 years. Over the last 15 years John has learned to love the game of pool winning or placing in the enviable “top three” a few times at the Oasis Friday night tournament, placing in the money in every tournament plus winning once in Cheryl Stoiber’s Chip Tournaments and winning tournaments in the Akron area as well over the years.
Today, dad is looking down with tears of joy seeing some of his heavenly partner and Mother’s Day founder, Anna, as John takes the GCAABA reins! Good luck, John, in your endeavors! Anyone interested in becoming a GCAABA board member can contact John at akronsportspub@yahoo.com
